- Great hotel in the center of Old San Juan. Nice rooftop, but a large area was closed and under construction. We loved the "hidden " bar and stopped by every evening for a nightcap. We had breakfast once at the hotel (not included). The Belgium waffles were great, but the coffee (no capuchino) was bitter. Service at the bar, restaurant, and front desk was always friendly and helpful. The room cleaning service, on the other hand , needs some improvements. - What a great hotel in the heart of Old San Juan! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms are on the small side but nicely decorated, and the bed was very comfortable. We asked for a room with a terrace, which made a big difference, I suppose, as some reviews complained that their room had no window. The terrace had a small table with two chairs and looked out over the street…lovely. The hotel has two rooftop sitting areas that offer a great view and have comfortable seating with protection from the sun. Both rooftops have hot tubs, one with individual hot tubs and the other with typical hot tubs for several people. The breakfast is varied and quite delicious. The hotel is uniquely decorated and so interesting. My favorite thing in the hotel is the “speakeasy” bar. It is exactly what I imagine a “speakeasy” to have been: small and dark but very comfortable and a full bar. If you want a chain hotel experience or super luxurious accommodations, stay elsewhere, but you’re really missing out. I highly recommend the Casa Blanca.read moreread lessPatricia C6/30/2024

- Excellent stay in Old San Juan! This hotel is perfectly located in the heart of Old San Juan! It’s a beautifully decorated hotel with incredible old world charm. There’s always fresh filtered water for guests, incredible air conditioning, and Luna is an absolute gem behind the check-in counter! There are TWO amazing roof top decks with hot tubs and incredible views! The noise from the elevator and noise from other guests is the most notable negative attribute of this hotel. - Convenient. I went with my mom and son for four nights, I will say they had some pretty amazing employees (some). We had a Junior Suite, super small. We didn't have enough blankets for 3 people. I had to request more. Unfortunately, they didn't change the extra blankets I requested; we had the same once the entire stay 🙁 housekeeping didn't do a great job of cleaning the room. My mom and I had to somewhat sweep every night and wipe down some areas with wipes we bought. Rooms definitely need some upgrade. Rooftop was not what I expected, pictures look much better than in person. POSITIVE, the food was amazing (restaurant area is a bit weird to find, its kind of in the hallway). Bar upstairs was great. - I discovered the Casa Blanca 6 years ago when searching on line for a nice place to stay in Old San Juan at the end of an 11 day cruise. We liked the homage to one of our favorite movies and the boutique look. It exceeded all our expectations! I was a professional traveler for 20 yrs prior to COVID and I know what makes a fine hotel.
The Casa Blanca has become one of our fondest memories. So much so that it motivated us to book another cruise from San Juan this March and I just finished making reservations for stays before and after the sailing.
Regarding some of the negative comments:
1. Parking: Don't bring a car. I don't rent a car when I stay in Manhattan either. 2. Elevator: There was no elevator the first time I stayed there. It took 2 years to build it into this very old building. Given the infrastructure and hurricane issues on the island, my expectations of reliability are discounted. The lobby decore (please see photos) is captivating, including a gorgeous chandelier and other fascinating accent pieces. My 5th floor room was cozy and charming as well, bordered by a walkway that allowed views of the historic streets. There was also a comfortable seating area, right outside my bedroom door, to relax and have coffee.

- From the moment we arrived, we knew we had booked at a quality establishment. I would have preferred to have had parking at the hotel, but to be fair, I don't know if any of the hotels offer that. Beyond that our stay was pretty much perfect.
I dropped my wife off to get us checked in and find out about parking. She had me circle back around and waited outside with the guy that was checking us in. He directed me to park in the alley so we could unload. He took all of our stuff in and got us squared away while we took off and went to explore some more.
When we came back, he remembered our names, asked us how we were doing, recommended places to eat close by, and just made us feel welcome. Gave us the full rundown of the hotel and the two elevators and the areas they service. Told us how to get to the roof top balcony, etc. The staff were all friendly and eager to help with anything we needed. They offered towels for taking to the beach as well.
With COVID protocols in place, they didn't offer cleaning services (not many hotels do), but you could get restocked on anything you needed at the front desk.
